Method to the Madness

One thing that is very noticeable about our sessions is that we do not follow a “traditional” or “conventional” coaching style. Some who are watching may say it looks “messy” or “crazy”, which we completely understand. What we see is ever-changing scenarios and situations that create new opportunities for the players to develop. This is when we usually say “please trust us, there is a method to the madness”.

Football by nature has some structure in terms of player positions, formations, and patterns of play. However, at the grassroots level and when it comes to developing young players, there is a big focus on individual player development. Not just their playing ability and technical skills, but many other factors such as problem solving and decision-making, physical strengthening and energy levels, confidence building and making friends, and more. At Football 2 Music, we believe that when trying to incorporate all of these elements, in addition to ensuring that each child has lots of ball contact and active movement time, remains engaged throughout the entire session, and is taking part in realistic footballing practices, the “traditional” and “conventional” coaching styles do not tick all the boxes. This is why we believe our coaching style and key coaching principles and challenges, combined with the natural vibes and benefits of music, is the perfect combination to achieve everything and how we achieve our mission of becoming your child’s favourite activity of the week.

By eliminating standing in lines, minimising waiting times, and allowing each child as much individual time with a football as possible, this helps us to maximise their active participation time and cater for individual needs, increasing the level of engagement throughout the session. Moreover, this enhances their technical skills and ball control, boosts their confidence, encourages creativity, and improves teamwork. By incorporating challenges and encouraging decision-making, young players can develop their problem-solving abilities and tactical awareness in a dynamic and pressure free environment. Through activities that encourage opposition and matchplay scenarios like small-sided games/matches, this allows them to incorporate what they have practiced earlier in the session, further enhancing the players overall experience. This then promotes teamwork and introduces competition among the children, whilst promoting an enjoyable and effective learning atmosphere.

We have our own mission and club goals about what we want to achieve. However, the collective mission and goal for all grassroots sports clubs should be to get children active and more involved in sport. This is just an insight into the way we are trying to achieve this.
